Vanguard Space Technologies, Inc Position: Program Manager
Location: Vanguard Space Technologies, Inc. - San Diego, CA

Position Summary:

The Program Manager is responsible for managing the cost, schedule, and technical execution of specific customer contracts from inception to completion. This position is responsible for all essential programmatic functions including: estimation of the scope of effort and associated proposal preparation; preparation of a program plan including the project schedule and budgets; assessing program risks and implementing appropriate risk mitigations; serving as the primary contact to the customer; preparing and leading customer briefings; developing follow-on business opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 15 years relevant experience in a program team environment on commercial firm-fixed and government cost-plus programs.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant experience as a Program Manager or as a Project Engineer/ Project Manager for programs involving engineering and/or manufacturing of composite structures for commercial spacecraft and satellite applications.
  • Strong history of effective leadership through communicating, motivating, inspiring, and rewarding individuals and teams.
  • Successful track record of managing complex programs and meeting all program objectives including cost, schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in leading and managing pursuits and proposals for large, complex programs.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with customers, large prime contractors, suppliers, business partners, in addition to company senior management.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Project and PowerPoint.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsible for managing program cost, schedule, and technical requirements in compliance with company standards to insure that customer requirements are met.
  • Serve as the primary focal point for customers and for establishing a rapport of trust and understanding.
  • Work with customers to determine needs, requirements, and solutions for new business opportunities including pursuit team leadership and management.
  • Ensure all resources such as engineering, manpower, facilities, equipment, tools, etc. are available for successful program execution.
  • Develop and oversee methods to monitor and control program performance against cost, schedule, and quality including defining program metrics.
  • Develop and present executive briefings on programs and new business opportunities and solutions.
  • Establish strategic relationships with customers, suppliers and key business partners to strengthen business opportunities with customers.

Vanguard Space Technologies, Inc Position: Reliability/Process Engineering II
Location: Vanguard Space Technologies, Inc. - San Diego, CA

Position Summary:

Senior Engineering position responsible for providing technical support to the program office. Additional responsibilities include systems and reliability engineering oversight to ensure the integrity of processes and hardware.

Essential Job Duties:

    Management Support
  • Review program contractual requirements and develop format and outline of End-Item-Data-Package requirements.
  • Work with Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering, and Manufacturing personnel to ensure flow-down of contractual requirements.
  • Assist in defining program scope by coordinating with Manufacturing Engineering in the development and release of the product build architecture (Bill-of-Operations and Bill-of-Materials).
  • Support investigations, development activities, and customer presentations including Manufacturing Readiness Reviews and Failure Reviews.
    Engineering
  • Review program requirements to create and implement program Inspection and Verification Plans including hardware acceptance criteria.
  • Review product designs and manufacturing methods for robustness and profitability to assure highest acceptance yield.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers to resolve programmatic issues.
  • Lead Material Review / Failure Review Board activities through root cause analysis and identification of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Use statistical analysis to determine control limits for equipment and processes.
  • Research alternative solutions to manufacturing problems and processing equipment, determine proper approaches, and make verbal and/or written recommendations to appropriate parties and implement solutions.
  • Develop Failure Modes and Effects Analysis Plans for existing equipment.
  • Track, report, and analyze defects driving to root cause analysis, and providing continuous improvement.
  • Participate in special projects, audits, and process improvements in support of quality assurance initiatives. Develop written reports of findings; escalate unresolved issues to appropriate management levels.
  • Lead and participate in Supplier Quality Audits and Supplier Developments.

Vanguard Space Technologies, Inc Position: Senior Engineer V
Location: Vanguard Space Technologies, Inc. - San Diego, CA

Position Summary:

This is an advanced composite engineering position responsible for leadership of engineering staff and management of resources to meet project budgets and schedule requirements. This position requires creative problem solving, knowledge of composite materials and processes, and experience in designing light weight and thermally stable space structures.

Essential Job Duties:

Provide support to Business Development and Program Management team in the areas of:

  • Perform design and/or structural analysis of composite structures.
  • Develop design concepts and detail parts that meet customer's requirements.
  • Review designs and provide input for improvements.
  • Generate and check drawings in accordance with ANSI Y14.5M 1982 or ASME Y14.5 1994.
  • Use IDEAS and NX6 packages to lay out designs, detail parts, drawings and FEM's.
  • Complete technical sections and estimate engineering costs and schedule for proposals.
  • Generate concise presentations with visual aids and precise technical data.
  • Responsible for project management and customer interface.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Good background in Finite Element Analysis and structural dynamics.
  • Experience or knowledge in vibration testing and thermal analysis is a plus.
  • Highly proficient in IDEAS, NX, Femap and MS Office.
  • Ability to independently handle project management and customer interface.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group of engineers.

Education Qualification and Experience:

  • Minimum BS in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in engineering composite space structures.
  • Hands-on experience in project leadership.
  • Project management and budgeting experience preferred.

Position Summary:

Coordinate, plan and schedule all tasks within the Operations Department in accordance to quality & manufacturing specifications and within the resource & capacity constraints.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage MRP system and the Production Control Department while performing continuous process improvements:
    • Understand all production processes and requirements based on quality & manufacturing specifications. Analyze and implement solutions to resolve conflicts.
    • Develop and maintain work standards for scheduling durations and budgets
    • Analyze and schedule based on inventory levels, technician capabilities and resources while maintaining fiscal responsibility and end-item delivery
    • Manage and integrate multiple revisions of the Bill of Materials and Bill of Operations within the MRP system.
    • Manage MRP purchasing suggestions, bulk inventory and operation supplies.
    • Monitor, measure, analyze, and improve upon all non-conformances to quality, schedule and budget
    • Process management (document, train and evaluate) to include, but not limited to: Master scheduling & capacity planning, receiving, shipping, stocking, kitting, cycle counting, equipment & facility maintenance scheduling and the creation of certification packages
  • Work with directly with managers and supervisors to include:
    • Program Office, Material Control, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Planning, Manufacturing, Finance & Administration and Facilities
  • Direct Supervision:
    • Hire, train and evaluate.
    • Resolve personnel grievances, offer solutions, record and follow-up.
    • Reports to include: Master Scheduler, Material Control Supervisor, Production Control Supervisor, Production Planner and Material Analysts

Abilities, Skills:

  • Manufacturing Resource Planning: Solid understanding of resource planning, scheduling, time-phased material availability, resource capacity planning and proven technical understanding & daily management of an electronic MRP system.
  • Critical thinking and decision making: Use logic and reason to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses in process development, task scheduling and resource conflicts.
  • Problem sensitivity: When assessing potential conflicts, analyze the likelihood and severity of consequences when prioritizing schedule
  • Technical writing, verbal communication and reporting: Clear, concise and meaningful.
  • Work Style: Organized, team player, self-motivated, able to motivate others, receive and delivers instructions professionally

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree
  • 10 years in production environment
  • 10 years running MRP systems, Epicor preferred or Vantage
  • 5 years supervisor of 3 or more to include hire, train, evaluate and discharge.
  • 3 years as Production Control Manager
